Review: Finding Your Way Back To God

I wish I could say my expectations were completely met for this book, Finding Your Way Back To God: 5 Awakenings To Your New Life, by Dave and Jon Ferguson.  I do love the premise - that God wants you in His life even more than you want Him in yours, and that you can do a simple "wager" and find Him in a more intimate way than ever before. I love that. I want that. And this book does offer up a single serving, simple way to do that: bet on God. Dare Him to make Himself real, if He is and if He cares. You've got options. You can follow the book's handy 30 Day Wager Guide in the back of the book, or you can just read the book and figure it out on your own along the way. Either way, you've got a journey ahead and it can be illuminating.

My hesitation with this book is that I simply could not get myself all that engaged with it, certainly not enough to sit down and take it in at once. I keep circling back to it, mildly intrigued but not interested enough to make the commitment, I guess. It could be my fault, perhaps a lack of spiritual fervor on my end, but I just haven't yet felt the passion I fully expected to feel.

My recommendation is this: buy the book. Try it out for yourself. You may have a totally different reaction than I did. What I plan to do, because I do like the idea behind it, is to give myself a couple of weeks and go at it again.

Maybe this time I'll really connect. I hope so, because if I'm gonna wager with anyone, I'd be really stoked to do it with the Big Guy.
